Closing the Wealth Gap: Promoting Change by Working Together

The Southern Regional Asset Building Coalition Project (SRABC), along with partners from the Gulf Coast, will host its third annual regional asset-building conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The conference will take place at the New Orleans Marriott Metairie at Lakeway in Metairie, Louisiana. The conference registration fee is $250. The registration fee includes a materials packet; breakfast, breaks, and lunch on Thursday; and breakfast and bus tour on Friday.

Southern Regional Asset Building Coalition (SRABC)


Mission

Building and supporting policy efforts to encourage asset building for individuals and communities in the Black Belt states through education, research, and advocacy based on a regional coalition approach.

Vision

Empowered families and communities having sustainable assets that they use to exercise control over their lives.

Goals

  • Strengthen regional and state asset building coalitions and networks for Hurricane and persistent poverty survivors in the Southern Black Belt.
  • Design and implement effective communication system, tools, and systems for interaction, education extension and outreach.
  • Build the capacity of HBCUs and CBOs in asset building work through mini grant programs and plan for Black Belt Research Policy Center.
  • Strengthen education, legal services and other related work for asset building-based economic development programs within state and regional coalitions and networks.
  • Develop a field-building strategy to connect organizations working on land loss and ownership issues in Southern Black Belt States that will create greater impact for the region and build capacity Policy Studies, Studies & Reports.
